Where do designers find inspiration from the latest games and gaming news?

  • Hey everyone! Lately, I’ve been curious about where designers go to stay updated on the latest game releases and gaming news. I know for some, checking out games can be a great source of creative inspiration, whether it’s for visual styles, storytelling, or just seeing how different design elements come together. I used to look at a few general gaming sites, but they don’t always feature the smaller indie titles or early releases that can be really unique. So, I’m wondering—what sites or channels do you all follow to keep up with gaming trends? Any blogs, YouTube channels, or social media accounts you’d recommend? Would love some fresh ideas

  • Great question! I totally agree—games can be such a unique source of inspiration, especially when it comes to visual storytelling and innovative design elements. For mainstream news, I usually check out sites like IGN and Polygon, but for indie games and early releases, I’ve found some other sources to be super helpful. YouTube channels like Game Maker’s Toolkit dive into game design and can offer insight into the creative processes behind games, which is really inspiring.

One site I’ve been using a lot lately is https://gamingedia.com/. They cover a great range of games, including smaller indie releases that often don’t make it to the bigger platforms. It’s been really useful for discovering hidden gems that spark fresh ideas. Definitely worth a look if you’re after something different!

  • I’ve been using it too, and it’s fantastic for finding unique games and indie titles that don’t always hit the big sites. I feel like they have a good mix of well-known and under-the-radar releases, which makes it perfect for discovering those hidden gems. It’s definitely one of my favorite go-tos now—couldn’t recommend it more!
