When the plaque comes out as a slick and with a nice and even brown color it is a good sign. It indicates that the plaque that has accumulated is simply from normal undigested matter. The color brown is given by the green bile that has shifted color along its journey down the intestinal tract. We say that it is the plaque of healthy people.

When found in regular fecal matter, green plaque may reflect a very rapid intestinal transit, or be related to some green foods and juices that one may have taken. When it shows in mucoid plaque, it is most likely coming from the fat that has been stained by foods or juices, or a sudden release of bile during the process.

The red color showing may have a different meaning. First, one has to notice if the plaque is light or dark red. The light red (very slightly colored) may be due to either an excess of internal heat (in TCM) or the slight presence of blood coming from hemorrhoids due to the abundant and sudden release of plaque.

Some supplements like Iron (Fe) can color plaque. If also seen in regular feces, it may express blood stagnation (in TCM). Otherwise, it may be because there is some bleeding in the Upper Gastro-Intestinal Tract like the stomach. Note that if only small parts are black it is most likely deeper layers of plaque that are being released. This normally comes along with a strong smell.

In TCM pale-colored feces express internal cold. Physiologically it may also be that the bile ducts in the liver or gallbladder are blocked so no bile is being released to give it its brown color.

Some people think that what they see is the product that has been ingested that is coming out but it is not.
